Baltimore has been a place I called my second home, not because I love crabs or Mr. Yogato or mustaches. It’s because of these two love birds, Jamie and Lucas. Every time Heidi and I go visit the Charm City, I feel like we have family to go see. I can’t believe it has been 3 years since we first met and photographed your engagement photos. I truly cherish our friendship. Congrats on your wedding.

She was nervous. She was excited. They were beautiful and breathtaking. Melissa and Meghan (M&M). M&M’s wedding was probably one of the most relaxed and easy weddings I have photographed to date. Look at the pictures closely. The way they look at each other, the way they smile, the place where their hands fall, it tells me everything about them. They are kind and caring, I couldn’t have asked for more. Clients like M&M are the reason why I am a wedding photographer. They love my work, respect me, and allow me to be the artist that I am. Thank you.

The bridal party walked to the corner of Chestnut and Pine to meet at the church where Eric and Sylvia would marry. It was like a scene in a romantic movie. E+S are the couple next door. Sylvia’s dress was simple, elegant, and timeless, it described not only her but Eric as well. Their family is filled with beauty, culture, and fun with a dash of crazy. I work very hard to find clients like E+S. The couple embraces me as one of their own and their family value my work and expertise. They make me feel like I am the luckiest guy in the world.

An awesome couple got married today. Lauren and Mike held their nuptials at their local church in Marietta, PA. Lauren did a fabulous job decorating the Community Bible Church with her down on the farm look. Then we headed over to Masonic Village to capture some breath taking images.

Sandy and Brent are a cute pair and this past Sunday we photographed their engagement photos in Mt. Joy. I was super excited to do a great job for them, their love is one of a kind. I really enjoyed watching them interact together because I knew they were super playful. Check out their amazing session.

For this Ask and Tell, I had the opportunity to sit and chat with Gail, owner of Country Threads by Gail. The shop was busy, Gail kept working on a gown as we spoke. She was so articulate about her trade, really made the interview process easy for me. We all know I’m no Barbara Walters.

How long have you been in the bridal business?
My mom made custom gowns and as a child, I used to help her. Then in sixth grade, I started hand beading wedding gowns. Professionally, I’ve been making custom clothes since 1980 and worked for different bridal stores since 1982.

How far in advance should a bride order her wedding gown from you?
Six months to a year is typical. But for the brides who tend to change their mind, a minimum of three months is plenty of time for us to work on their gown.

What advice would you give a bride who wants to have her dress custom-made?
Go to a large bridal store and try on lots of different styles, tops and bottoms. So when we design you a dress, you’ll know what you like and what fits your body type best.

What should a bride bring for her first consultation?
Shoes and undergarments. If you’re thinking of going with a strapless dress, bring a strapless bra so we can get the perfect measurements for your alterations.

Are some wedding dress materials more difficult to alter?
Yes, the chiffons are more difficult. Most of the time, manufacture will trim the seams really close on their chiffon, so you don’t have a lot of flexibility unlike satin dresses.

What is the best way to bustle a heavy train?
French bustle because it gives a bride more support than a traditional bustle. A traditional bustle is pulled up on the outside of the dress and the French bustle is hooked up underneath.

Any last words or advice?
Don’t rule out a dress, try it on. You never know, it might be the one dress you were looking for.
